New Faces on the Board of Directors | 2007 Member Survey Results | Lake Leelanau Lake Association Online Discussion Forums Open
The following changes in the Lake Leelanau Lake Association Board of Directors were made at the Annual Meeting of the Lake Association on June 12. - Retirements: the following Officers and Committee Chairs have stepped down:
- Hugh Farber as President of the Association. As Past President, Hugh will continue to advise the Board of Directors.
- Mary Taylor as Communications Committee Chair
- Harold Martin Sr. as Water Safety Committee Chair.
- Election of Association Officers: the following officers were elected by unanimous vote of the members present:
- President: John Fitzpatrick (formerly Vice President)
- Vice President: Bob Miller
- Treasurer: Tom Coulter (continuing)
- Secretary: Colleen Moose (continuing).
- Approval of New Committee Chairs: by unanimous consent of the members present:
- Communications: Larry Hauser
- Water Safety: Jim Kacin
Final updated results of the 2007 Member Survey are in. In all, 240 members and 29 nonmembers responded. On the general issues part of the survey, the results were as follows.
- 95% (218/230) answered that they were satisfied with current activities of the LLLA
- 97% (242/249) favored zoning in the Narrows to preserve as much of the remaining natural area as possible.
- 81% (182/225) favored compulsory septic system inspections upon the sale or transfer of lakefront property.
- 96% (217/225) opposed road ends being used for the placement of private multiple docks
- 76% (167/221) answered that if LLLA used its web page for questionnaires and reporting results, they would use the web page.
The water quality part of the survey asked members about swimmer's itch, zebra mussels, and weeds/algae at their sites on the various parts of Lake Leelanau. Among other things, these results show a greater incidence of swimmer's itch in the North Lake where almost 60% (48/82) reported incidents, compared to the South Lake where just 40% (46/115) reported incidents.
